Within W Ventures, our New Ventures arm focused on revolutionizing how people tell stories, we’re looking for an Entrepreneur-in-Residence to make some big investments in web3. We believe the principles of web3 will have a huge impact on storytellers, IP licensing, fandom, and fundamentally shift how content is created or distributed. Operating within the W Ventures business unit, you will bring hypotheses for validation and execution, making the benefits of web3 available to storytellers everywhere.
The right candidate will have experience working in the creator economy, web3, and a deep understanding of fandom mechanics. You are able to quickly validate ideas, and focus on the right signals to achieve product-market fit. You are comfortable in strategic and innovative thinking around where the space is going and how to play a role, as well as a strong executor who can go and run experiments with minimal direction. This role will also be excellent at examining the market for organizations to consider for acquisition, investment or partnership and assessing and articulating the value to Wattpad.
What you’ll be doing:
Deeply exploring and understanding the web3 space as it relates to storytellers
Investigating and assessing opportunities for acquisition, investment and partnership in the space (including financial modeling, competitive analysis, validation)
Building and managing relationships to support more formal partnerships
Developing and executing on experiments and web3 concepts that serve storytellers
Working closely with a small team of other entrepreneurial engineers, product managers and designers to collaborate on opportunities
Aligning stakeholders against the right opportunities, presenting and pitching concepts to leadership and articulating complex market dynamics in easily digestible ways
What we’re looking for:
Strong experience and passion in the web3 space, including a good understanding of DAO’s, crypto communities, and mainstream fandom.
A love for the power of stories, the importance of storytellers, and a belief in the importance of web3 in better serving these creators
Experience working in small entrepreneurial teams with a strong bias to action and ability to launch and test ideas with speed and thoughtfulness
Real world entrepreneurial experience either as a founder or very early stage employee at a high growth startup
Excellent analytical and communication skills as it applies to identifying and evaluating opportunities for investment and acquisition in the market, ideally with experience in venture capital, strategy consulting, corporate development or banking
