Job Overview

Working under close supervision, the Accounting Assistant supports Wawanesa’s objectives by providing a wide variety of general accounting and administrative support.

Job Responsibilities

• Process general accounting functions of basic complexity inclusive of journal entry preparation, matching and coding invoices, reconciliations, and bank deposits
• Prepare regularly scheduled expense analysis
• Prepare and maintain billings and records for company owned vehicles
• Verify and distribute regularly scheduled reports
• Provide filing and administrative support
• Act as a back-up for other administrative jobs
• Maintain and order office supplies for our Winnipeg and Thunder Bay Offices
• Responsible for maintaining broker supply requests including: order envelopes, wording booklets, brochures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• General understanding and previous exposure to accounting rules
• Conversant with MS Office, specifically in Excel
• Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
• Able to adapt and work in a fast paced/changing environment
• Team player with the ability to work independently when required
• Able to learn quickly and apply learning to new situations
• Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize appropriately
• Effective communication skills
• Prior accounting experience would be considered an asset
• Experience with PeopleSoft an asset
