OVERVIEW
We are searching for an Accounting and Special Projects Manager to join our team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this role is responsible for leading the charge on special projects ranging from acquisition valuations, post-merger integrations, compliance certifications, internal control testing and design, FP&A, application integrations, and financial reporting under IFRS. This role will be working to bring best in class processes and practices to the Finance Team while supporting the Company’s strategic goals and innovative environment.
Together with the Finance Team, the Manager, Accounting and Special Projects will also directly participate in the preparation of month end close activities and assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements for several reporting entities under IFRS. RESPONSIBILITIES
Preparing technical accounting memos under IFRS for acquisitions and other significant transactions
Preparing valuation schedule inputs for identifiable assets acquired in company acquisitions and directly coordinating with third party valuation specialists and auditors on the timely finalization of purchase price allocations
Leading post-merger integration projects for newly acquired entities including activities such as: finance and treasury account management, application integrations, internal control design, and technical accounting evaluation and disclosures.
Assisting the Group Financial Controller in the design, evaluation, and documentation of effective internal controls
Designing and executing FP&A activities within the Finance department including the preparation of monthly KPI and FP&A reports
Key contributor in the annual budget process and forecasts throughout the year for several entities with a focus on expenses and cash flows
Preparation of audit working papers and assistance with the annual audit
Goodwill impairment testing including the preparation of identified CGU analyses, forecasting, and recoverable amount calculations.
Assisting in the preparation of the Company’s going concern evaluation under IFRS
Evaluating and monitoring sales tax exposures and remittance requirements for several reporting entities
Leading the coordination and completion of debt compliance certifications and reporting
Review of month-end close activities and reconciliations including assisting in the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual financial statements under IFRS.
Key department contact with respect to the company’s primary business systems
Proactively identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance internal controls
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of accounting and assurance experience
CPA designation in good standing
Bachelor’s degree or diploma specialized in accounting and/or finance
Advanced knowledge of financial reporting under IFRS
Ability to tackle multiple projects while managing several key contacts and team members to efficiently execute deliverables in a start-up environment
Capacity to operate independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, and have the ability to influence the decisions of upper management through effective logical reasoning and insightful analysis
Strong verbal and written communication skills are crucial, as well as the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, and problem-solve
Strong experience in internal controls and design considered an asset
Experience with post-merger integrations and application implementations is an asset
Experience in FP&A is an asset
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Must be detail oriented and have a passion for finance
Self-motivated with the ability to establish and maintain solid relationships through a client-first mentality
As part of a diverse team, ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Willing to participate in ongoing education and training for the role
This role is expected to work regular business hours based on PST time zone
