Job Duties:
Prepares monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Statement of Operations, Statement of Comprehensive Income, Statement of Funds, Statement of Cash Flows and supporting documents including future cost schedules.
Performs a variety of accounting functions, including the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, allocation of interest and pension surplus/deficits, recording of revenue and bank reconciliations.
Maintains the internal accounting policy manual and performs research of changes in accounting practices via International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Ensures integrity between the WCB subsystems (Emerge and Optimal) and the financial system (Lawson) which requires an in-depth knowledge of the subsystem’s functionality.
Liaises with bank representatives and the third party credit card provider to resolve payment discrepancies.
Manages month end processes in the financial system.
Assists with the preparation of the financial statements for the annual report along with year end working papers and liaises with the external auditors.
Performs research on other WCBs policies and practices as required.
Supports or leads projects impacting Finance and/or the financial system.
Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education and training, literature reviews, workshops, seminars, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Actively pursuing the final stages of the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) accounting designation
Minimum of three (3) years of full cycle accounting experience, including report preparation and analysis, general ledger entry and complex reconciliations
Current knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Advanced proficiency in the use of a personal computer and software in a Windows environment, including MSWord, Excel and financial accounting software
Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations
Effective analytical, research and problem solving skills
Strong decision making skills
Ability to perform detailed, accurate work
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including the ability to write clear and concise reports to communicate complex information in plain language
Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
