Office Locations: Based in Sydney, Nova Scotia (flexible to work virtually in Cape Breton)
The YMCA of Cape Breton is seeking a Childcare Project Manager to join our team to support our Early Learning Centre expansion project.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Childcare Division, the Childcare Project Manager, will be responsible for overseeing the development of the YMCA of Cape Breton’s childcare expansion project. This position includes the development, coordination and analysis of the project, with identification of required resources and effective solutions to ensure the successful outcome of the project and the opening of additional non-profit, regulated, YMCA childcare centres. The Childcare Project Manager will also work as part of a collective with other YMCAs in Nova Scotia to support childcare expansion across the province.
In support of our mandate, team and partners, the Childcare Project Manager will:
· Work collaboratively with the Senior Manager-Childcare Division, and YMCA collective childcare centre team to coordinate the childcare expansion needs of the YMCA of CB
· Manage the development of a detailed project work plan, budget and timeline to ensure completion with tight deadlines
· Determine internal and/or external resources required to reach objectives, including but not limited to:
o Securing satellite sites for additional YMCA childcare centres across the region
o Childcare curriculum and programming
o Financial: budgeting/forecasting/accounting
o Meeting the licensing requirements for regulated childcare in Nova Scotia
o Recruiting, onboarding and training of other ECEs and ELC staff
o Procurement
o Working with General contracting and construction teams
o Liaising with key site and partner contacts to ensure project is delivered on time and on budget
o Government relations
o Marketing, communications and community relations
· Continuous collaboration with program and community partners, procured services, the Senior Manager – Childcare Division, and other YMCAs to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope and on budget.
· Assist in writing funding applications
· Oversee budget based on scope of work and resource requirements and report status regularly to YMCA of Cape Breton Director of Finance
· Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
· Oversee the management of contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
· Utilize childcare industry best practices and standards to ensure regulatory obligations and requirements are met
· Other duties as assigned by Senior Manager, Childcare Division.
Qualifications
· Proven work experience as a Project Coordinator, Manager or similar role
· Post Secondary Diploma/Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child/Youth Development or Education is an asset
· Strong ability to manage, prioritize and organize multiple tasks
· Strong working knowledge and experience in Early Learning and Child/Youth Development
· Strong working knowledge of EECD and Nova Scotia Child Care Licensing Acts and Regulations
· Strong collaborative work ethic; ability to meet multiple competing deadlines, and to work independently under pressure.
· Excellent verbal and written skills
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
· Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation
· Flexibility to work outside of regular work hours on an as-needed basis
Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training, as well as successfully complete First Aid and CPR training. Travel will be required.
