YMCA of Oakville Looking for General Accountant at Oakville, ON Full Time

The YMCA of Oakville is looking for a talented, analytical, values driven Accountant to join our Finance team.

The General Accountant is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance in the day-to-day operations of the Finance department in accordance with the Association’s policies and procedures. Duties include activities associated with month-end, year-end, financial statements, audit, budgeting and forecasting, as well as grants and wage subsidy funding. The role is also responsible for accounts receivable processing and collections and providing backup for accounts payable when necessary. The General Accountant works collaboratively with all departments to constantly improve and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the associations financial processes.

Location: Hybrid (flexible) working arrangement – office location/home

Office location, Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario.

Work Schedule: Full time, 35 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Supports the Director of Finance in the day-to-day operations of the Finance department and helps achieve departmental and organizational goals. This includes but is not limited to activities associated with month-end, year-end, financial statements, audit, budgets, forecasts, grant and wage subsidy funding and reporting, deferred revenue recognition and cash flow.
• Assists the Director of Finance to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, and control protocols and takes corrective action when required.
• Responsible for full-cycle accounts receivable processing – creating invoices, applying payments, creating, and auditing electronic payment files, and following up on accounts receivable aging and returned items.
• Provides backup for accounts payable when needed and ensures appropriate allocations for expenses.
• Works with Membership Service Representatives and other administrative personnel regarding registrations and payment documentation, daily cash out issues, and cash handling procedures and manages credit card limits, authority, and security.

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Minimum 3 years of Accounting or Finance work experience
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Ability to extract, manipulate and analyze data from multiple systems
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with focus on meeting deadlines
• Builds relationships at all levels within the organization and communicates financial matters clearly
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and demonstrate a high-level ability for taking initiative and problem solving
• Proven experience of handling confidential data
• Current Security Clearance with Vulnerable sector screening
• Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against covid-19 or provide valid proof of exemption on grounds that are protected under the Human Rights code

Desirable Requirements

• CPA or working towards completion is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Unison Software System
• Canada Wide Early Learning Child Care system (CWELCC) knowledge
