Krahn Engineering is seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to join our Structural Division in Edmonton, Alberta.
The role of the Junior Structural Engineer is to work on projects of all sizes under the guidance and supervision of a senior engineer. You will learn to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems and related structures. You will perform a variety of tasks which will include calculations and field work requiring travel. The successful candidate will work with the structural team to develop engineering designs for a wide variety of multi-residential, commercial, and institutional buildings throughout Western Canada and Ontario.
Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of municipal, residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including existing buildings and structures.
Complete structural calculations and prepare and edit structural specifications.
Conduct seismic assessments and upgrades of existing buildings and structures.
Checks and reviews engineering design for compliance with established codes, standards, and specifications; provides technical support to designers and drafters.
Prepares reports and other technical documentation as required by the client.
Communicates with vendors and contractors.
Provides general project coordination services.
Coordinate with technical staff in preparation of contract drawings and documents and other work tasks.
Coordinate structural designs and documents with other disciplines (Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Landscaping, etc.)
Provide structural engineering support during construction, attend site meetings, and carry out field reviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Analysis and Design.
Registered or eligible for registration within 6 months as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Analysis and Design
4-6 years relevant experience in Canada.
Knowledge of North American building design codes and standards, including seismic design and detailing requirements.
Knowledge of Canadian building design codes and standards, including seismic design and detailing requirements. ·
Ability to learn and work in structural engineering design software.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Self-starter and team player.
A valid driver’s license.
