We are seeking an Equipment operator with 1 or more years’ experience working in a log yard operating on different pieces of equipment including, Grapple Loader or Button Top Loaders.
The position is located at a mill in the Peace River area, and is expected to start in November. Currently, we are looking for candidates local to Peace River and area or candidates willing to relocate only.
What will you be doing?
Demonstrate positive safety behaviors while driving equipment throughout the yard
Operate heavy equipment needed to unload log trucks and deck cut to length wood.
Retrieve wood from decks to feed wood room
Responsible for mobile equipment lockouts.
Check and service equipment at the end of a 12-hour shift to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
Report equipment defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Does this sound like you?
Must have complete high school diploma or equivalent
Post-secondary education in heavy equipment operating would be considered an asset
1 or more years’ experience preferred with log material handling equipment
Previous wood room and/or chipping experience would be considered an asset
Previous experience managing log inventory considered an asset
An autonomous, and self-directed and person
Mechanical aptitude with demonstrating problem solving
Ability to work a revolving 28-day, shift work cycle in a physically demanding environment
A safety orientated mindset who can demonstrate safe work practices with respect to people, equipment, and processes.
