Retailors Looking for Sr. Controller at Toronto, ON Full Time

As part of the Fox Group Canada expansion plans (Mango, Fox Home, Nike and Laline) we are looking for an experienced Sr. Controller to join our Head office team! This position is responsible to oversees the activities of the financial, bookkeeping, and payroll functions and associates to ensure proper execution of the function and the implementation of appropriate financial controls to ensure compliance with accepted accounting processes and legal requirements.

This position is based in the Canada Head Office (Toronto) and reports directly to the CFO (located in Amsterdam). We are currently offering remote work flexibility to our Head Office employees.

Here’s some of the key responsibilities and expectations for this role:

• Preparing monthly / quarterly / annual management and Group reporting for senior executives and board
• Development and implementation of appropriate International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting policies and procedures
• Completion and successful audit of companies consolidated financial statement
• Preparation and filing of all tax returns
• Transferring pricing policies and strategies
• Ownership of SAP ERP system and other accounting systems
• Developing and implementing appropriate control structure
• Coordinating payroll, benefits and other HR activities in liaison with HR and payroll providers
• Supporting other initiatives as needed, including M&A
• Working with the CFO on appropriate currency hedging and tax strategies
• Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
• Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
• Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
• Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
• Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances and making investments.
• Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
• Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
• Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
• Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Complies with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
• Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
• Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
• Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
• Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

Here’s the skills, experience and knowledge we’re looking for:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Finance or Accounting. The equivalent of the same in practical experience is also acceptable. CPA certification is also desirable for the position.
• At least 5 years of working experience in a Control position within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, preferably in retail or similar industry.
• Must have had vast proven and successful experience in progressive management and financial/accounting analysis experience in a managerial position.
• Must also be highly familiar with dynamic accounting software and have a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information. A suitable candidate must also demonstrate knowledge and experience in general accounting principles and practices.
