The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Winnipeg, Manitoba region. This role’s duties will require planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will be essential for this role, and a creative type who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. What you get to do every day
– Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
– Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
– Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
– Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
– Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
– Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports
– Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
– Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
– Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
– Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
– Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectation
– Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills
– Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
– BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
– Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
– Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
– Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
– Budgeting experience desired
– Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued
– Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail
– Strong attention to detail
– Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
– Self-starter and strong ethical standards
