Manager, Construction Health and Safety, LCL

Job Overview:
As the Construction Health and Safety Manager, reporting to the Senior Manager, Construction Health & Safety (National), you will work with the Loblaw Real Estate team to monitor health and safety on all capital projects in Western Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Pre-Construction safety kick offs for all Capital Projects (new builds, renovations, and special projects) in Western Canada
- Monitor contractors on various sites across Western Canada and conduct periodic site safety inspections ensuring issues of non-compliance are addressed; accordingly, prepare, distribute, and file site visit reports
- Liaise with Real Estate partners, to ensure safety on joint venture projects is managed appropriately by all parties involved
- Effectively communicate with contractors, Loblaw representatives and applicable governing bodies to ensure the team is working without any disruption to the set construction schedule
- Maintain a reporting mechanism for Health & Safety Concerns and Governing Bodies field visit reports/ orders
- Conduct construction health & safety audits as required (separate from regular periodic site inspections)
- Responsible for ensuring areas of concern and/or liability are promptly brought to the attention of the Sr. Manager, Construction Health and Safety (National)
- Update, develop and maintain Health and Safety training for the Loblaw Real estate team
- Develop and implement safety seminars/ update meetings, including changes due to amendments to applicable legislation
- Investigate within a timely fashion, any serious Construction Accidents
- Act as a Safety resource for the Maintenance and Refrigeration divisions of Loblaw in Western Canada
- Update, develop and maintain Loblaw construction policies & procedures, ensuring legislative amendments are incorporated and effectively communicated to all applicable parties
- Participate in Joint Safety Spokesperson group for Loblaw Store Development and Execution Team
- Coach and train front-line leaders on how to identify unsafe behaviours, and how to recognize, assess and control hazards.
- With third party support, ensure Health and Safety Prequalification’s of all Western Canada Construction Contractors is maintained for Loblaw

Professional Competencies:
- Exposure to construction industry, including construction safety practices and procedures; with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
- Post-secondary education with a focus in the Health and Safety field will be given preference
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) Designation preferred or in progress
- CHSO (Construction Health & Safety Officer) Certification or NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) obtained or in progress
- Experience in retail and/or supply chain environments are an asset
- Travel required within Western Canada and periodic travel to Brampton Head-office – requires a valid driver’s license
- Sound knowledge and the ability to interpret Provincial Occupational Health & Safety and Workers’ Compensation Acts and Regulations within the Western Provinces
- Well organized and ability to balance multiple projects
- Self-motivated and results orientated
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- A positive attitude, desire to learn, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
