Ministry of the Attorney General Looking for Controllership, Accounting and Reporting Lead at Toronto, ON Full Time

The Ministry of the Attorney General is seeking a Controllership, Accounting and Reporting Lead to provide expert advice to the Ministry senior management and program areas/agencies on controllership, financial reporting, accounting policy, and risk and internal control issues. As a key liaison between the Ministry and the Office of the Provincial Controller, you will lead the implementation of new accounting standards, key financial reporting (e.g., Public Accounts), develop key briefing materials for senior management, and coordinate the development of risk and internal control competency and capacity for Ministry management and staff.

Note: This position is located at 720 Bay Street, Toronto; however, alternate work arrangements may be available.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• develop recommendations to streamline and improve financial controls, financial systems, recording and reporting for financial transactions
• assist Ministry management and program areas/agencies in the interpretation and application of financial, accounting, risk management and administrative policies, directives and guidelines
• coordinate analysis and evaluation activities for financial information needs and performance measures
• undertake special assignments and lead projects

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:

• you are able to research, analyze and assess options, business and financial risks and develop recommendations
• you can investigate financial matters/issues and apply knowledge of accounting / auditing principles, modern controllership practices to develop solutions / proposals for senior management that are cost efficient, effective and economical
• you have the ability to extract and analyse data to prepare options and recommendations

Financial Knowledge:

• you demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted public sector accounting theories, principles, and techniques (e.g. GAAP and PSAB), controllership, financial and risk management policies, procedures, best practices, processes, controls, monitoring and reporting principles and techniques in a large organization
• you have knowledge of financial and reporting systems associated with accounting, finance, monitoring and management reporting
• you have the ability to apply strategic business plans, objectives, programs, service delivery methods and resource plans

Communication and Computer Skills:

• you can present complex financial matters, options and recommendations to various audiences, including senior management, orally and in writing
• you can develop and deliver training and presentations on interpretation and application of financial policies and procedures
• your consultation skills enable you to liaise with all levels of staff
• you are proficient with computer software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook

Project Management Skills:

• you demonstrate knowledge and experience in project planning and management including the ability to lead multi-functional project teams and work as a team member
