The Grants Specialist will identify, promote, and manage industry sponsored and government research funding opportunities for members of the research community, including review of funding terms, drafting and assembling the components of the funding application, and developing the budget, working closely with the researchers and research teams, all in an effort to facilitate the growth of world-class research and innovation at Hamilton Health Sciences. The Grants Specialist will provide expert assistance, professional and strategic advice to HHS researchers in the preparation of research grant applications and management of funded research projects/programs, and provide guidance to other stakeholders (researchers, contracts team, finance team, study teams, etc) on the analysis of current or proposed grants in relation to HHSC’s regulatory and legal obligations and potential risk exposure.

  • Masters degree in Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, and general knowledge and understanding of the healthcare environment and/or clinical research setting.
  • Experience in proposal drafting and development (5-6 years)
  • Scientific or clinical trial knowledge or involvement (3 years)
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication and interpersonal skills within a professional environment
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database systems ie. Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Word
  • Effective problem solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project and task deadlines, excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

Unit Summary

Research initiatives at Hamilton Health Sciences are committed to advancing excellence in health care through research and education to benefit the people and communities we serve. The Research Administration office reports to Senior Management and is responsible for research administration encompassing Research Finance, Research Development and Relations, Research Contracts, and the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board. These areas support over 500 researchers and personnel staff, from clinical trials to basic science. Research Administration works in affiliation with McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

Schedule Work Hours

Regular full-time hours (37.5 hours/week, Monday-Friday)
