The Opportunity
Reporting to the Assistant Manager Logistics & Sales, the role of the Terminal & Port Supervisor is to ensure the continuous movement of TSMC ores by rail from the mine site through the terminal / port and onto the vessels. In essence it is coordinating the train movement to and from the mine site, and the receipt of trains as they return loaded at the terminal, unloading of same, stockpiling and processing when required of the ore and reclaiming/ship-loading of the ore.
This position is ideally based in Sept-Iles or within the area since it requires to manage operations with third part contractors at 2 different locations at the Port of Sept-Iles.
Major Responsibilities:
Interface with production group at mine site, rail transport stakeholders, forecast / manage inventory and shipment planning and follow up
Develop and maintain annual ore movement / inventory plans;
Develop and maintain daily ore movement / inventory plans;
Work with the ore sales group / vessel chartering group to coordinate vessel movements at the terminal;
Work with the production group coordinate train movements between the mine site and Sept Iles;
Coordinate terminal operations to optimize all facets of the operations.
Manage the operations of third party contractors involved in the terminal processing and material handling l operations;
Collection, verification, approval and communication of daily 3rd party contractor work sheets.
Daily Safety Coordination with 3Rd Party Contractor Foreman and Monitoring of Operations.
When required collect samples of ore processed at terminal and deliver to IOCC Laboratory for testing.
Work with the Tata vessel chartering department to ensure timely availability of vessels to load ore;
Identify and work with local surveyor for ore inventory management;
Develop system / suppliers for major maintenance work required on TSMC owned equipment.
Maintain records of TSMC rolling stock (Railcars) maintenance & certification.
Required Experience:
7 to 10 years’ experience in similar position
Excellent communication in both English and French
Exposure to the principles of terminal operations and stevedore operations;
Experience in the container yard planning process;
Knowledge of transportation industry preferred;
Exposure to computerized terminal operating systems;
Demonstrated leadership and team player skills;
Deals well with pressure and a constantly changing environment;
Flexibility and mobility are required – work arrangement can be rotational.
