Our client, a successful and established company in Calgary , is looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist. Located at our client’s central office, nestled in the heart of Calgary, you’ll become an integral member of a dynamic and closely-knit team, contributing to the development of an exceptional work environment.

As the Senior Payroll Specialist, your role involves close collaboration with both the Human Resources and management teams. Your responsibilities play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of payroll and benefits processing. Furthermore, your expertise in payroll systems, including the requisite ADP experience, will allow you to make significant contributions to our clients’ success.

In this role you will be collaborating with members of the HR and Management teams. You will be responsible for managing payroll and benefits processes accurately, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and serving as a resource for employees and management regarding payroll and benefits matters. Your expertise in payroll systems, including ADP, will allow you to make significant contributions to our clients’ success.

What you’ll be doing:

• Payroll Processing: responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee salaries and wages. This includes calculating hours worked, overtime, bonuses, and deductions, and then disbursing payments through various methods (direct deposit, checks, etc.)
• Benefits Administration: manage employee benefits programs, which may include health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits. This involves enrolling employees, processing changes, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Tax Compliance: stay up-to-date with tax laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. They calculate and withhold the appropriate taxes from employee paychecks and ensure timely tax payments to government authorities
• Record Keeping: maintain accurate payroll records, including employee information, earnings, deductions, and tax data. These records are essential for auditing purposes and may also be used for various HR and financial reports
• Reporting: generate reports related to payroll expenses, labour costs, and other financial data. These reports help management make informed decisions about budgeting and resource allocation

Requirements

What you require:

• Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) certification is required; PCP and CPM is considered an asset
• Minimum of 5 years’ of experience in payroll and benefits administration
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting is a must
• Familiarity with payroll software and accounting software packages is required ideally ADP Workforce Now
• An understanding of federal and provincial labor laws and regulations pertaining to payroll, taxes, and benefits
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, such as HR and finance, to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processes
• Must maintain the highest ethical standards when handling sensitive employee information and financial data
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve payroll-related issues effectively
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Outstanding communication and influencing skills.
