EIPS is recruiting a permanent Facilities Foreman with Facility Services at Central Services.
EIPS Central Services is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students, and Information Technologies. Facility Services is home to approximately 36 of our EIPS employees.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Maintenance Operations, this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the activities of building maintenance and central distribution.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance and Operations
Supervises, guides and controls, the activities of the building maintenance section composed of multi-disciplined trades personnel.
Hire and coordinate the work of summer students. Schedule safety orientations, and work assignments and supervise daily.
Ensures the effectiveness of the section’s daily operations, and ensures resources are available to meet critical, emergency, preventative and routine maintenance requirements.
Ensure work adheres to building codes.
Establishes work priorities and work schedules.
Co-ordinates work of outside contractors when required for maintenance activities.
Ensures quality control by carrying out regular meetings with staff on site.
Ensures the effectiveness of the section’s maintenance program; reviews schedules and recommends changes when needed.
Investigates faults and problems and makes recommendations and decisions to rectify identified faults.
Identifies and provides input to the IMR project process.
Co-ordinate maintenance upgrades with IMR projects.
Provides input to planned and preventative maintenance programming for school facilities.
Co-ordinate preventative maintenance and demand work with the Manager of Building Control Systems.
Safety
Ensures compliance with provincial OH&S regulations.
Conduct hazard assessments and establish safe work procedures.
Issue and maintain daily FLHAs with all crew members and sign off at the end of each workday.
Investigate incidents and accidents and make recommendations.
Inspect safe work practices.
Actively participate on the Facility Services Safety Committee.
Liaise with Fire Inspection services to meet all requirements.
Financial Management
Monitors material and equipment purchases of the section and takes action when required.
Requests issue of purchase orders.
Authorizes payment of invoices.
Review and approve Master card purchases of direct reports.
Personnel Management
Supervise, guide and lead the work efforts of direct reports.
Review performance.
Jointly establish personal growth plans.
Empower staff in the conduct of their individual responsibilities.
Responsible for maintaining efficiency, morale and safety standards within the section.
Ensures personnel administration requirements are met.
Conduct regular staff meetings.
Review manpower requirements with the Assistant Director.
Build Relationships
Liaise with school administration in respect to service levels and school-generated requests.
Oversees contractors providing service to EIPS ensuring quality and standards are met.
Coordinates outside agencies having jurisdiction.
Other Related Duties
Acts as Assistant Director when required.
Provide support for after-hours callouts as required.
Qualifications
Performs other related duties as required.
Education/Certification
Valid Journeyman certificate with Interprovincial red seal in one of the following: Electrician, Plumber/Gas fitter, Carpenter or HVAC Technician.
Completion of high school.
Skills/Training
Minimum Of Five Years’ Experience In The Trade.
Minimum of two years in a supervisory capacity is an asset.
Minimum of two years experience with preventative maintenance programs preferred.
Completion of a Supervisor Development Program is an asset.
Must possess a valid Alberta Drivers License.
DECISION MAKING
This position is expected to work independently with little supervision and provide leadership to the members of the Building Maintenance department. Decisions will be made independently concerning day-to-day operational issues within the Building Maintenance department including both routine and non-routine situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position is expected to involve periods of intense concentration. Some sitting, standing, moving, lifting and bending (or a combination of these movements) and some physical efforts are required concerning worksite inspections, investigations, and training. Physical effort to climb stairs, ladders, and access awkward places plus personal protective equipment, when needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Significant time is expected in schools and on job sites, particularly where maintenance and construction activities are in progress. Work interruptions and conflicting priorities between staff, administration, and contractors will exist. Unplanned events such as incidents or accidents can cause significant disruption. Possibility of after-hours calls or overtime/weekends in response to emergencies or time-sensitive issues/projects.
Additional Information
The position requires driving of vehicle to and from EIPS sites during work. Occasional out-of-town or overnight travel related to conferences or meetings.
