The Opportunity

Reporting to the VP Finance, the Financial Controller will be responsible for various accounting duties, ensuring most month-end related finance tasks are performed on time and quarterly filing deadlines are being met.

In this position you will be able to work across the organization with leaders in different disciplines to analyse and convey the context behind financial numbers; oversee daily, monthly and year-end financial processes, provide direct input into Board documents, Management Discussion & Analysis for quarterly filings on three exchanges; provide insight to the management team; assist in system design and analyze and assist in project and operational costing and analyses.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Coordinate the overall supervision and financial administration of the client that includes their Joint Venture mining project.
• Full Cycle accounting duties, ensuring all accounting deadlines are met
• Full oversight of Accounts Payable and Finance related Master Data management in company’s ERP system (Bank Directory, Suppliers bank details, Fixed Assets register, Lease Contract Management, GL accounts, Cost Centers, Cost Center Distribution rules, Projects Management)
• Facilitate and lead the month-end, quarterly and year-end processes including timely financial statement and MD&A preparation and presentation to the Management
• Preparation of the Management Report with a focus on context behind variances to monitor and analyze results across all projects
• Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including amortization, Lease Contract, prepaids and other schedules
• Weekly and Monthly bank reconciliations
• Create consolidation elimination and adjusting entries with appropriate and necessary supporting documentation
• In close collaboration with the Capital Projects management team monitor, and evaluate projects budgets vs actual projects costs
• Assist, provide input in the preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
• Tax compliance and statutory filing of reports in Canada and internationally (GST, source deductions, tax instalments, tax (legal entity) reporting, exploration license reporting)
• Preparation and review of year-end working papers, position papers and accounting memos for the external auditors
• Assist, provide input in the preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
• Work with project and exploration management teams to determine project health and profitability and provide recommendations for improvement
• Prepare estimate to actual analysis
• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with leadership team and staff across different departments
• Oversee finance team members
• Support interactions with key relationships, including auditors, advisors, vendors and banks
• Initiate and implement process improvements and control systems, including the development and improvement of the systems within the accounting department

What You’ll Need to Be Successful:

• Professional accounting designation – CPA or equivalent
• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
• 8+ years accounting experience in a small to medium size public company preferred but not required
• Full cycle accounting experience is a must
• Hands on experience working with SAP or other ERP systems required
• Advanced level skills with Microsoft Office suite
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS)
• Business Analytics, performance analysis will be beneficial
