We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant, CARIAD at our Corporate Offices in Ajax, ON

The VGCA Accounting Shared Services Centre provides essential back-office accounting functions for General Ledger, Inventory, Accounts Receivable and Affiliates, Accounts Payable and Fixed Assets for multiple VW Group Companies including Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Chattanooga factory production, electric vehicle infrastructure and automotive software and technology in Canada as well as in the United States.

CARIAD, Inc. is a North American subsidiary of CARIAD SE (or CARIAD), an automotive software and technology company that bundles together Volkswagen Group’s software competencies and further expands them, building upon a heritage of bringing automotive innovation to everyone. CARIAD was founded in 2020 and it develops the leading tech stack for the automotive industry.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the overall integrity and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for CARIAD, Inc., as well as additional financial reporting and disclosures as required by the parent company, VW AG. The Senior Accountant supports the integrity of relevant internal controls by certifying all GL activities are prepared, processed, edited and posted based on proper documentation, timely and efficiently. The role manages the month-end close process for CARIAD, Inc. to ensure the accurate and timely posting of general ledger entries and the proper IFRS accounting treatment of all transactions. This individual works closely with CARIAD, Inc.’s Controlling group to align reporting objectives and assist with streamlining local processes. This role is also required to work closely and align with the other Senior Accountants (responsible for different entities) and manage related external or internal audit requirements.

Due to the startup nature of this company, you will work to define and establish processes and controls for new business areas to ensure integrity and accuracy of the financial data. Support with other accounting functions will also be required during this phase.

This is a hybrid flex model, based out of Ajax, ON

Primary Responsibilities

• Support in the process of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close, including preparing and booking of journal entries, monthly reporting requirements, and financial analysis
• Monthly reporting file submission and validation to VWAG financial reporting system, by the reporting deadlines for CARIAD, Inc., which includes obtaining correct and timely information and schedules
• Liaise with VW AG Group Accounting regarding monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting issues and queries as they arise, technical accounting matters, as well as completion of ad-hoc reporting items throughout the year
• Co-ordinate appropriate and timely responses to special requests for information and reports from VW AG and other supported subsidiaries
• Research and analyze IFRS accounting issues, offer sound accounting advice to the business, and prepare thorough IFRS Position Papers for internal use and for external auditors (when required)
• Assess the impact of upcoming changes in new IFRS standards relevant to area of responsibility. Align processes/systems/people accordingly
• Document all local accounting treatment changes and communicate with VW AG Group Accounting to ensure compliance with Group guidelines
• Responsible for ensuring that the accounting treatment of all transactions are in accordance with IFRS and the VW Accounting Handbook
• Maintain communication with VW AG Group Accounting in Germany on any accounting changes to current or new processes
• Collaborates with Controlling function to understand business needs and the overall activity in the financial statements, ensure business objectives are compliant with IFRS, and assist with Controlling’s reporting requirements through alignment of reporting for the respective systems.
• Responsible for documenting, implementing and monitoring new, existing and proposed processes as well as preparing detailed desk procedures for all role related tasks.
• Completion of general ledger & sub-ledger account reconciliations with prompt follow up and resolution of outstanding reconciling items.
• When required, manage financial statement audits by coordinating the list of audit deliverables, liaising with external auditors on significant accounting issues, and ensuring audit reporting timelines are met.
• Review and support flux preparation and analysis
• Support the corporate tax team with ad hoc requests needed to complete their filings.
• Support in the implementation of additional information systems as required during the startup phase.
• Co-ordinate with VW AG Group Accounting in the implementation of reporting system upgrades and changes.
• Support all relevant functions within accounting services (such as accounts payable and affiliate accounting); determining how each area’s unique issues impact financial reporting and as special requirements are needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field and/or relevant work experience
• 3+ years of accounting experience in professional office environment
• Progressive accounting experience, including financial analysis, financial reporting, project representation, financial statement preparation and account reconciliation. Experience and exposure to IFRS guidelines.
• Previous accounting experience with an audit firm is preferred
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Works well under daily and monthly deadlines
• CPA designation or in final stages of obtaining the designation
• Working knowledge of SAP is an asset
• Travel up to 10% (US, Germany)
