BrainSTEM Alliance Looking for STEM Community Coordinator – Wood Buffalo at Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada Full Time

This is an opportunity for a Community Coordinator based in the Wood Buffalo region, to support and engage STEM Ambassadors and volunteers in that region. This is the perfect opportunity for a graduate student in STEM, or an early career STEM professional, looking for a part-time role that allows them to network and engage with other STEM professionals!

BrainSTEM Alliance is a network of Ambassadors that works in collaboration with non-profit, charity, and educational institutions to create customized curricula for workshops, programs and conferences that promote education of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), innovation and entrepreneurship to children, youth and young adults.

Job Description

At BrainSTEM Alliance, our STEM Ambassadors are the driving force of our organization. An Ambassador is usually a STEM professional working in industry or in academia, who is passionate about sharing their knowledge of STEM, making an impact in the community, and inspiring the next generation in STEM. In order to support our community of Ambassadors, BrainSTEM is looking to onboard Community Coordinators as contractors for a short-term, paid contract. Each Community Coordinator would support a different region, including Western Canada (ideally based in Alberta), Central Canada (ideally based in Ontario) and Eastern Canada (ideally based in the Nova Scotia), as well as a Community Coordinator dedicated to the Wood Buffalo region.

Key responsibilities:

• Leverage your networks and social media to recruit STEM professionals as volunteer Ambassadors with BrainSTEM Alliance
• Support and engage with current Ambassadors through social media, google chat, whatsapp and other platforms
• Organize community events, either virtual or in-person, with Ambassadors in your region
• Work directly with our Ambassador administrator and Operations manager to support the onboarding of new Ambassadors
• Work with the Ambassador administrator and Programs coordinator to identify Ambassadors to volunteer for specific BrainSTEM Alliance programs
• Work with the Communications coordinator to create social media content that highlights BrainSTEM Alliance Ambassadors

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest and/or previous experience in STEM education
• Experience with Google Suite including Google Chat, Google Docs, and Google Forms
• Previous experience with social media content creation and marketing using Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn and passionate about community engagement and communications

Timing and Compensation:

• Contract period: 9 months at ~12 hours per month ($20/hr).
