Why GMF is the place for you
At GMF, we empower our people to create change where it has the most impact – municipalities. GMF is a $1.6 billion permanent endowment from the Government of Canada, managed at arm’s length, making it nimble and available for higher-risk, higher-impact initiatives. A further $530M investment into GMF to support the National Adaptation Strategy was announced in November 2022. Our team is committed to helping local governments switch to sustainable practices faster. GMF is the cornerstone program of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
Our unique mix of funding, resources, and training gives municipalities the tools they need to build resiliency — and create better lives for Canadians. Through GMF, municipalities have reduced carbon emissions; built better transportation assets; constructed efficient and resilient buildings; diverted waste from landfill; made previously unusable land available for development; and improved soil and water quality.
You in this role
The Project Officer, Capacity Development will provide project oversight, coordination, administrative and logistical support to knowledge and skills development programming in support of GMF’s Sustainable Affordable housing initiative. This programming aims to build the capacity of the affordable housing sector to improve the energy efficiency and affordability of existing and new affordable housing units, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve resident comfort, health and quality of life.
The Project Officer will oversee the design, logistics and delivery of a number of GMF- and partner-oriented events and learning activities (both online and in person) to mobilize the knowledge and practices developed within GMF’s funding program and the Canadian affordable housing sector – including municipal, not-for-profit organizations and housing co-ops. The role helps build the capacity of key stakeholders within the affordable housing sector to understand, undertake, successfully deliver and scale-up successful practices and approaches to plan, build, operate and maintain more ambitious energy efficiency projects.
Major activities include coordinating the delivery of the Regional Energy Coach program, the development and delivery of other learning and capacity building activities (online and in person), convening and facilitating peer learning and networks, supporting the development, delivery and measurement of capacity building for funded projects and collaboration with affordable housing providers and other program partners. The Officer also assists with the integration and coordination of knowledge management, exchange and mobilization across other units of GMF and the FCM Programs department.
