Walker Aggregates, a division of Walker Industries, supplies high-quality aggregates and asphalt to many Ontario communities. With locations in Simcoe, Grey Bruce and Essex Counties as well as the Niagara Region. Walker Aggregates operates eight quarries, eight sand & gravel pits and two asphalt plants
The materials produced at our quarries, pits and asphalt plants are used to build Ontario’s infrastructure, which is the foundation of our economy – including roads, bridges, underground infrastructure, sidewalks, houses, schools and hospitals.
Health and Safety Coordinator and Human Resources Administrator
Main Responsibilities:
Promotes and reinforces superior safety culture initiatives throughout the company to ensure work is being completed safely while adhering to ministry standards and company policies.
Assists in planning, developing, and implementing safety policies and training programs to ensure supervisors and employees have access to appropriate health and safety training and information.
Plans, coordinates and administers health and safety training programs to minimize accidents and improve safety in the workplace.
Communicates and implements legislative requirements and health and safety initiatives to ensure supervisors and employees work in accordance with related legislative standards and safe work practices.
Reviews workplace inspection reports and safety meeting minutes to prepare and provide weekly/monthly accident/incident reports to the VP of Health and Safety. Follows up on concerns and recommendations.
Performs on-site inspections, observations and audits of physical conditions to assess sites, compile results and communicates the results to highlight potential areas for improvement.
Provides support and mentoring to the Joint Health & Safety Committees for all business units by attending meetings and reviewing minutes to ensure that issues and concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Provides support for the worker compensation claims management process to ensure claim costs are controlled and the return to work program is effectively implemented.
Respond to general questions or concerns related to policies and procedures.
General administrative duties include generating employee letters, company communications, and general support to the Human Resources Department as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum high school graduation or equivalent level of education, plus an additional two-year college Health and Safety diploma.
Working towards a CRSP designation is an asset.
Greater than one year but less than or equal to two years of Health and Safety experience and Human Resources Administration.
Experience working with unionized employees is preferred.
WHMIS and Adult learning theory would be an asset.
A valid Driver’s License in order to travel to various work sites.
