Status: 12-Month Contract

Location: 22 Adelaide Street West, Toronto (currently working remotely but will be returning to the office May 2nd, in a hybrid model of 2 days in office)

Job Summary:
The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing a wide range of administrative support for the global series publishing program. This is an editorial training role, where the Editorial Assistant provides support to editors on their authors, providing first reads of manuscripts, revision notes, line-edits and packaging support. This role also provides a front-line contact for the Editorial team and assists in positively portraying the company to external sources.

Responsibilities:

• Providing assistance to the Editorial team by preparing reader reports and revision letters, reviewing copy editing and inputting author approval/alterations. Assisting with other editorial duties as needed.
• Preparing art and preliminary materials.
• Preparing back cover copy (both long and short form). Some blog writing will be required.
• Completing first screen for all “slush” manuscripts and query letters submitted, and identifying and forwarding those for further consideration.
• Creating and coordinating metadata.
• Trafficking backlist materials and assisting backlist team with research, titles and more.
• Acting as front-line contact for the editorial team by screening requests or messages from external parties, such as answering queries from authors/agents, addressing unsolicited author/agent calls, and participating in Twitter pitching events.
• Providing assistance to team as needed to support imprint strategy and growth.

Qualifications:
Specific training or job experience required includes:

• Undergraduate degree
• Previous administrative experience
• Previous experience in the publishing industry is an asset
