Daily tasks and responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee the day-to-day operational activities of transporting goods to our clients;
- Optimize the transportation network to achieve best practices in alignment with business growth;
- Source and negotiate for services and preferential rates for freight forwarders or carriers (international and local);
- Organize and control the inbound and outbound of goods, focusing on efficiency, pricing, and service levels;
- Recommend solutions/propose new initiatives to continuously improve our transport operations, processes, customer service and reduce/optimize the overall freight cost envelope;
- Oversee custom clearance operations for imports and exports for both Canada and USA and provide needed paperwork;
- Create and maintain measurable performance metrics (KPI’S) for inbound and outbound transportation activities;
- Lead the implementation of all logistics and shipping/receiving changes, policies and procedures;
- Recruit, train, manage and coach a team;
- Oversee investigations and resolution of clients and shippers complaints.
Knowledge and skills required
- +5yrs experience in logistics operations, shipping/receiving and/or warehouse operations;
- Understanding of import & export shipping procedures and customs a strong asset;
- A post-secondary degree, certificate, diploma or equivalent, concentration in transportation logistics, operations or similar as an asset;
- Excellent communication skills in French and English, both written and verbal;
- Detail-oriented and great multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize;
- Able to analyze data, utilize problem-solving skills, and recommend solutions;
- At ease with technology and cloud base tools, as well as strong knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet softwares;
- Outgoing, sociable and energized by people interactions;
- Works well as part of a team, at ease working with remote teams.
