Location: Position to be based from Thunder Bay, or Bothwell, Ontario

Nokiiwin Tribal Council and Southern First Nation Secretariat have partnered on a new initiative intended to support both First Nation Finance personnel working across the province of Ontario, and to provide practical applications finance training to post-secondary students, or adults interested in working in the field. The Capacity Connect initiative continues to evolve and we are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and motivated Finance Advisor
who has experience working within the First Nations field (or demonstrated education and experience). The Finance
Advisor will provide guidance and support to identified First Nation finance teams to support capacity development.

The Finance Advisor will be responsible for working with the project team and clients to help identify finance priorities and work flow, and to provide training and or support in a variety of areas such as; Indigenous Services Canada reporting, systems and software consultation, general accounting / bookkeeping and others as required. The Finance
Advisor will be responsible for producing work plan documents and contribute to other key areas within the Capacity
Connect initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and provide guidance, recommendations, and training options to clients in a variety of key finance areas o Financial reporting documents o Software applications training and upgrading o General finance guidance not limited to; account codes, documentation, budgetary expenditures vendor listings, reconciling accounts, updated record systems
• Support budget and audit processes (including year end, funder, and internal controls) including: o Track/monitor compliance with purchasing and payment policies o Prepare standard operating procedure, workflow, and training documentation o Provide input to develop solutions for staff training and systems improvement
• Support financial systems development o Assist with research, implementation and customization of accounting and workflow software

Preferred Qualifications:

• College Diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• An individual working toward a professional designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) an asset

• An appreciation of and interest in First Nation Cultures and community aspirations is required
• Must be highly accurate, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as a team member
• Must have excellent computer skills with an aptitude for accounting, productivity, and automated workflow software
• Must have valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation
• The successful candidate must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus
• Must be bondable
• Successful completion of a Level 1: Police Criminal Record Check (PCRC)
