As our Controller, you will be reporting directly to the Director, Finance. The Controller is responsible for the financial reporting function of the company. Reporting directly to the Director, the Controller will oversee the accounting team, provide analysis, interpret results, and provide recommendations to improve financial performance where appropriate. The Controller will also report results both internally and externally to Monark’s Executive Team and external stakeholders.
What you will do:
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
Responsible for preparation of financial information and including, but not limited to forecasts, financial statements, and analysis of our various business models.
Prepare and maintain an annual operating budget.
This job will require management/supervisory experience. You will be expected to provide hands on approach in leadership and motivation to accounting staff. Evaluate staff. Recommend individuals for promotion, hiring, and termination. Prepare and implement in-house training plans.
Control and monitor payroll and expenditures for the department.
Administer and update the company credit policy and other company policies as required.
Control and reduce accounts receivable.
Plan and direct monthly meetings.
Work closely with all Executive team members in achieving goals and objectives.
Control, monitor, and forecast cash flow.
Enforce legal and fiscal obligations as mandated by government agencies in compliance with professional standards.
Prepare, implement, and maintain a departmental mission statement.
Support our HR department concerning hiring, employee relations, disciplinary action, training, counseling, evaluating, etc.
Interact in a courteous and professional manner with all staff, executives and community members.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
What you should bring:
A minimum of 5 years’ progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/finance preferred. CPA designation or equivalent required.
Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy. Prioritize, organize, and follow-up.
Be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment. Follow directions thoroughly.
Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
Work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality with all company data.
Must have excellent communication skills and be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Exceptional oral communication skills a must.
Thorough knowledge of accounting/operations, purchasing, inventory.
Thorough knowledge of budgeting and generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to maintain technical competence in accounting, tax matters, and industry innovations.
Ability to direct and coordinate accounting functions.
Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, and retrieve information from all company sources.
Ability to maintain staff and client confidentiality at all times.
Ability to lead by example.
Ability to work independently and to partner with others to promote an environment of teamwork.
Has proficient understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment and have a high-level attention to detail.
Maintain positive and productive working relationships with other associates and departments.
Must be observant and quick to respond to various situations while also multitasking and handling stressful situations.
Proven team leader with a high level of energy and motivation.
Experience of QuickBooks Online is an asset
