Skills and Qualifications
This individual must have completed post-secondary education and obtained a University degree in his or her field of specialty. The individual must be able to work well independently, and also in a team environment taking direction from supervisory staff in managing their project workload. A Level 1 Designer shall possess strong technical design skills with problem solving ability and academic knowledge of civil and structural engineering concepts, and knowledge of statics and various materials utilized in the construction industry. Both written and verbal communication skills will be developed as a Level 1 Designer.
Travel will be required as part of workload assignments, primarily in Southern Ontario, thus the candidate must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and their own vehicle complete with automobile insurance.
Level 1 duties and Responsibilities
Perform accurate field measure-ups during design stages under supervision of others
Perform site visits during construction and prepare site visit reports for review by others
Utilize MS Office suite to develop reports, letters, and other correspondence
Complete engineering calculations for review by others, as per applicable codes and regulations
Prepare design drawings using AutoCAD under the directions of others
Utilize engineering analysis software under the direction of others
Review fabrication drawings under supervision by others
Start to develop skills in construction/design specification writing
Develop coordination skills related to other Engineering disciplines
Learn to develop skills in report writing and structural feasibility reporting
