Employment Counselor/Job Developer, your passion and commitment to making a difference will shine through as you counsel and guide young people. Your clients are youth between the ages of 15-30 who are struggling with challenges to obtaining and sustaining employment. These challenges can include precarious housing and/or homelessness, mental health (i.e. trauma, addictions, anxiety) where your guidance and support towards stability in employment is needed. Through life skill and employability skill development, job matching, job coaching and partnership building, young people will move forward along the stability continuum.
The 360˚kids Employment Counselor/Job Developer:
- delivers individualized case management of clients though small group and/or one on one facilitated life skill and employability skill building workshops; builds relationships to assess clients interests and abilities to ensure successful job matching; job coach and support youth and employers .
- life skills and employability skills include: job search skills, interview techniques, resume preparation, career exploration, budgeting, time management, communication, problem-solving, self-care/self-awareness/self-advocacy, stress management, coping strategies and social perceptiveness.
- builds relationships with employers to create access for youth to employment; creates awareness to the benefits of mentoring youth in employment through research, marketing, outreach and cold calls; program promotion at community events.
- works with Employment Program team and 360°kids’ wrap around support program staff to ensure client and program success while positively contributing to 360°kids as an organization.
QUALIFICATIONS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a mental health/social services field of study (e.g. Addictions and Mental Health, Social Worker, Social Service Worker, Psychology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
- Experience working with “at-risk” or street involved youth/youth with mental health/addictions barriers
- Knowledge of the job market and the Employment Standards Act
- Demonstrated client focused counselling skills and role modelling; ccounselling experience in terms of life skills and behaviour management
- Exceptional relationship building skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills
- Assessment, intake, and case management skills
- Motivated, has a strong work ethic, empathetic, and must be able to work with a team
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation and conflict resolution.
- A broad knowledge of community resources and the ability to strongly advocate for clients and professional referrals.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check), car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Working knowledge of York Region services
- Car and valid driver’s license required
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
