360°kids Looking for Youth Development and Engagement Specialist Consultant (C) at Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada Full Time

The Youth Engagement Coordinator recruit’s youth to program advisory roles to ensure youth voices are part of the decision-making around program development and evaluation. The Youth Engagement coordinator will provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership opportunities to young people that are non-threatening, supportive, client-centered. Develop productive, effective, and professional relationships with young people to create opportunities for success both within the 360°kids environment and in the community. The Youth Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of youth in a holistic manner and ensures youth have a voice in the programming that affects young people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness.

Job Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing creative strategies for engaging youth with lived experience.
• Develops opportunities for Youth Leadership within 360°kids.
• Facilitates training and workshops for young leaders.
• Assists youth to develop leadership skills and provide opportunities to practice the skills learned.
• Support the work of the Youth Council for York Region Youth Strategy.
• Provides informal counseling and help clients in accessing additional resources and supports when necessary.
• Network, identify, and build partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Advocates with outside agencies to secure leadership opportunities that value youth insight and voice.
• Follows up with and connects with other agencies that support youth.
• Represents 360°kids and programs as required with various segments of the community including schools, Children’s Aid Society, partner agencies, clients, and parents.
• In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Community support and COO creates, and implements approved strategies and plans that will result in the achievement of the program’s goals and objectives.
• Report on a regular basis to the Senior Manager of Community Support regarding issues of need and/or concern. In the event of a crisis or critical incident, immediately reports to appropriate level.
• Attends training workshops and relevant conferences that pertain to the role.

Education & Skills Required

• Child and Youth worker diploma or degree in social work, psychology, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience required working with at-risk youth and/or street-involved people.
• Experience with MS Office, with the ability to prepare, and write reports and maintain same.
• Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
• Current first aid/CPR certification.
• Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).Car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Excellent assessment skills with experience responding to situations based on available information.
• Possesses strong personal ethics and integrity, as well as, exceptional interpersonal skills, including influencing, consensus/team building, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, management, leadership, motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, and empowerment.
• Sound judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving ability with the willingness to stand behind and take responsibility for decisions and actions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies and the public.
• Effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff, the public, and youth.
