Reporting to the Vice President, Tax you will lead all aspects of AIMCo’s tax compliance function and oversee the preparation and filing of domestic and international returns for over 500 entities. With many complicated organizational structure charts and a vast global presence, you will be a valued tax expert, ensuring that all holding entity tax returns are completed accurately and on a timely and basis.
Leading a team of tax compliance professionals, you will model a commitment to continuous improvement in self, team and processes, and encourage the same in others.
Responsibilities
Managing internal and external teams to ensure the timely completion of a large volume of annual filings for domestic and international partnerships and corporations
Collaborating with accountants, lawyers, investment managers and other business associates to ensure financial information necessary for the completion of tax compliance duties are received on a timely basis and in a format that results in effective and efficient completion of tax returns and other filing requirements
Leading a team in identifying and developing process improvements to expedite filings, minimize errors and manage risk within the regular reporting process
Maintaining an electronic tax database and calendar and other organizational solutions
Handling and verifying the accuracy of both Canadian and international (mostly US) tax notices; settling discrepancies with tax authorities for optimal results and arranging for timely tax payments
Identifying opportunities for efficiencies and automation in the tax compliance process
Assisting in tax review and audits as required
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field
Professional accounting designation (CPA) and completion of in In-Depth Tax Part I, II & III or a Masters of Tax
10+ years experience in US and Canadian tax compliance
Strong Accounting skills and experience with complex reconciliations
Working knowledge of federal, provincial and state income and sales tax legislation and administrative practice
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Successful track record of coaching, managing and mentoring staff to new levels of professional achievement
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
Adept at problem solving, time management, organization and risk identification
Skiful collaborator, with a proven ability to develop strong working relationships with various internal departments and external parties
Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others
Success Measures
The successful Director, Tax Compliance will coach, manage and mentor the tax compliance team to complete annual tax filings and provide opportunities for their professional growth.
