The Opportunity

The lucky student who ends up working in the Compliance Assurance Team (CAT), will help in supporting the delivery of the Alberta Energy Regulatory (AER)’s compliance assurance program by assisting compliance assurance professionals in the pursuit of promoting, verifying, and enforcing compliance in our province. This role increases understanding of the AER’s compliance assurance program and promotes increased industry accountability and performance to ensure the AER’s mandate is upheld. This includes the analysis, investigation and evaluation of compliance information, and coordination, monitoring and management of comprehensive compliance files. The individual collaborates with CAT members, other AER employees and teams to ensure effective actions and practices are implemented.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct the evaluation, prioritization, and management of comprehensive compliance files. Gather information, conduct investigations, evaluations and develop briefing packages to provide recommendations as to the most effective and appropriate regulatory actions to take.

• Support development of compliance action plans and assists staff with regulatory principles, options, and the use of enforcement tools.

• The compliance assurance team has recently taken on a significant new responsibility and there will be an opportunity to gain exposure and knowledge on this as we operationalize the liability management program.

• Work with compliance assurance team members and assist them with tasks related to the above bullets. You will be a new set of eyes and we will be interested in your thoughts and suggestions. Learn, grow, and have fun this summer working with great people on work that truly matters.

Qualifications:

• In pursuit of a degree in or related to oil and gas, government affairs, sciences, business.

• Working experience in the public or private sector related to any of the above will be considered an asset.

• Well versed and competent with common business tools and systems including but not limited to Microsoft suite of products, SharePoint, adobe. A quick learner with tech in general and not afraid to explore and grow competence in various systems.

• An honest communicator with very good written and oral communication skills. Someone who can be fun and serious at the appropriate times. A team player and a difference maker.

Additional Requirements and Information:

• This position is a full-time summer student position which is expected to last approximately 4 months.

• Proof of enrollment in a registered institution and returning to studies following this placement will be a condition of hire.

• All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application.

• There is a small chance that limited travel could be necessary eg: day trip to Red Deer. This would not be mandatory.
