The Opportunity
The Student, Engineering will work with the Engineering team to help understand the impact of reservoir / wellbore design strategies on fluid disposal, specifically related to induced seismicity. The student will gain an understanding of disposal design and operation including maximum injection/reservoir pressure, disposal well completion design, performance/operating principles, and start up, operating, and suspension operations.

The objective of the role is to provide a rewarding work experience, while allowing the candidate to gain technical exposure to aspects of reservoir engineering in disposal wells and factors that contribute to induced seismicity. The student should also leave the program with an understanding of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)’s mandate, how it relates to the core business and what it is like to work here as an engineer or technical subject matter expert.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Build a database from publicly submitted data and determine influencing parameters in induced seismicity and be able to show corelating variables in a specifically designed dashboard.

• Data mining and extraction, data manipulation and the use of data analytics tools to show trends and ideally, create a model to predict or optimize wellbore design to improve performance.

• Minifrac and diagnostic fracture injection test analysis.

• Utilization of internal and external software systems such as AccuMap, ArcGis, geoSCOUT, Petrinex, Power BI, etc.

Qualifications:

• 2nd or 3rd year student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering program at an accredited post-secondary.

• Data analytics experience.

• Strong communicator.

• Experience working on a team and as an individual contributor.

• Strong data analytics and computer programming skill, with experience in Python, R Studio or similar is preferred.

• Familiar with Machine Learning tools such as Power BI, Spotfire and/or Tableau preferred.

• Familiar with handling of large databases and data manipulation tools preferred.

Additional Requirements and Information:

• This position is a full-time summer student position which is expected to last approximately 4 months.

• Proof of enrollment in a registered institution and returning to studies following this placement will be a condition of hire.

• All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application.
