Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) mission is to improve health by providing outstanding clinical, education, research, and leadership services. The AMSHP is made up of a workforce of ~500 physicians and is accountable for ~$190M in restricted grant funding. The Manager, Academic Medicine and AMHSP leads the Academic Medicine and AMHSP teams for the Edmonton Zone. The manager provides overall direction for activities on each of the teams and works closely with their Senior Consultant, Coordinators Program Assistants and Finance teams to ensure harmonization of activities within and among teams in this portfolio and others in Medical Affairs. The manager also serves as the liaison between medical affairs teams throughout the province, other departments within AHS (Human resources, Finance, Workplace Health and Safety, Legal, Security etc.) as well as external stakeholder groups such as Alberta Health (AH), the Universities of Alberta and Calgary (UoA, UoC), College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and the Professional Association of Residents of Albert (PARA).
The manager has primary responsibility for the design, implementation and evaluation of strategic and financial initiatives intended to support AMSHP physicians, as well as medical students, residents and fellows within the Academic Medicine Programs. This includes ensuring adequate human, financial and material resources to accomplish desired outcomes as well as development of processes that are lean and customer focused. The manager consults regularly with relevant stakeholders (medical leaders, physicians, operational leads, Covenant Health, WHS, HR, business advisory services, AH, CPSA, UoA etc.), to ensure that processes are working well in various contexts, consistent with provincial standards and are adjusted as necessary to achieve optimal results. The manager participates and provides support (individually and through the teams) for zone/province wide planning, review and revision of zone agreements, adjustment and implementation of physician compensation grids. The manager provides overall financial management of the AMHSP budget Including the review of monthly and yearly budget expenses to identify trends and potentials for savings, investigating variances and accountability to balance costs and expenditures within identified budgets. Also is responsible for and authorizing expenditures as per AHS guidelines and in compliance with AHS procedures and policies. In addition, the manager responds to issues arising from the work of the teams within the respective portfolio, gathering appropriate data, pursuing a productive resolution and communicating results for those who need to follow-up or who may be faced with this situation in the future.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s in health services administration, Business, Nursing or other equivalent preparation with least 3-5 years’ experience in leadership and/or Health Service provider environment.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal, communication skills. The ability to interpret client needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to non-standard requests. Ability to employ initiative and self-sufficiency to work in areas of ambiguity. Proven ability to foster partnerships and cooperation within a large organization in order to achieve goals. Extensive experience with Financial analysis, budget maintenance and variance reporting.
Preferred Qualifications:
