Alberta Health Services Looking for Unix/Linux Server Operations Architect at Calgary, AB Full Time

Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services IT has an exciting opportunity for a strong technical leader to join the Technology Infrastructure Services Team as a Unix/ server operations architect. As a valued senior member of Server Compute team, you will develop high level designs for the infrastructure required to support AHS Unix/Linux server based projects and initiatives. Critical to this role will be the ability to work in a team environment and autonomously as well as the ability to work cooperatively with a variety of stakeholders including management, clinicians, vendors, software analysts and co-workers. Specifically, you will work on a team to support Red Hat Linux, IBM AIX and other server infrastructure technologies. The ability to work with these critical systems under tight timetables using your proficient analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills will be key. Leveraging your proven communication, interpersonal and organization skills will also be crucial to your success as you will use your experience and knowledge to interpret client’s needs, assess their requirements, investigate, diagnose and resolve environmental problems, which are essential to business functions. This position is available for Hybrid/Remote work in Calgary area.

Description:

Responsibilities include: Design, configure, and support the integrated components of the AHS Server Compute Infrastructure for highest attainable levels of system reliability, availability, and maintainability; Coordinate and lead project and initiative implementation work conducted by Technology Services staff as well as manage the response to project issues involving the department; Plan and coordinate with cross functional teams (technical, systems, business, vendors, etc) to assess problem scope, impact, and characteristics; Identify IT department improvements and lead initiatives to improve internal process effectiveness as well as technology automation; Provides strategic planning for major IT infrastructure that are sustainable for growth and costs; Participate in setting and reaching IT goals; Provide leadership and mentorship for colleagues with less experience and where appropriate provide or suggests more efficient work approaches; Foster a collaborative relationship with infrastructure and enterprise architecture teams; Understand, develop and document design requirements and considerations; Represent the team on Major Incidents, assists in the recovery from high profile, complex solution outages; Act as escalation point for incident and problem management for more junior staff; Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and major incident call-outs, as required.
