EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Under the direction of the Manager of Human Resources and as part of the HR team, the Employee Engagement and Development Coordinator (EEDC) will use their expert knowledge to assist Algoma Public Health (APH) in retaining and motivating productive, engaged employees to create a high performance, sustainable organizational culture. The EEDC will contribute to the achievement of APH’s objectives by supporting the development, implementation, coordination and improvement of a broad range of employee programs and initiatives that meets the Agency mission, vision, values and strategic plan.

Some of the duties of this position may include but are not limited to:

• Support the administration and activities of employee engagement surveys & workforce development plan;
• Coordinate the new hire survey, exit survey and other employees’ surveys to improve the employee experience at APH;

• Conduct new employee orientation and employee onboarding initiatives including compliance training;
• Continuous and on-going review of survey results to track employee engagement and workplace wellness to provide recommendations and action plans;
• Analyze leadership and employee performance assessments to design and deliver formal and informal learning opportunities;
• Plan professional development and other employee engagement events in consultation with staff;
• Plan and organize employee engagement and employee recognition events;
• Coordinate processes to gather input and develop reports, presentations and action plans related to employee engagement and workforce development;
• Contribute to the development of the agency’s cultural priorities, and identify the actions or activities required to support successful culture change;
• Develop, implement and monitor a process framework to deliver, track and report on employee engagement outcomes;
• Facilitate training workshops and learning experiences to enhance the effectiveness of employees in a variety of content areas including to build on foundational public health skills and leadership development;
• Maintain learning records, reports, evaluations and learning effectiveness;
• Consults with leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate program specific supports to help leaders improve team cohesion and increase staff engagement;
• Assists with and facilitate post-training gap analysis and needs assessments through surveys, knowledge checks and focus groups to implement timely training feedback;
• Create opportunities to address employee feedback;
• Work with management to develop strategies to engage employees, assist with assessing performance and attendance management;
• Champion a high performance workforce and people strategy that attracts, retains and motivates teams by fostering an inclusive work environment;
• Collaborate with colleagues both within HR and throughout the organization, building solid relationships and providing people-centred ideas, support and service on initiatives and programs.

Qualifications, Ability, Experience, and Skills for this position include but are not limited to:

• University degree in organizational development, human resources (or adult education and several years of experience in a talent development role);
• 5+ years’ experience in human resources field, in a multi-union environment;
• 3+ years of direct employee development experience with demonstrated understanding of training principles, tools and adult learning methodologies;
• CHRP/CPHR is preferred;

• Experience serving as an advisor and partner for all things related to employee development and employee engagement that enhance equitable and inclusive practices, increase productivity and improve employee retention and engagement;
• Working knowledge of current trends, issues, legislation, regulations and practices in areas of employee development and employee engagement;
• Compliance focused; ability to interpret policies, procedures and collective agreements;
• Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, change data into information and effectively find resolution;
• Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and strong attention to detail;
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in conversation and writing with a broad range of people on a variety of sensitive and confidential matters; including development on training materials and presentations;
• Ability to handle sensitive issues diplomatically and confidentially;
• Strong time management, planning and project management skills;
• Excellent presentation, facilitation and training skills;
• Ability to work in a self‐directed, and highly responsive manner, to establish priorities and balance multiple projects;
• Actively collaborate with others to produce desired results in a supportive environment;
• Manage activities and projects towards measurable goals and standards;
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
• The ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in French and/or any other language will be considered an asset;
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required;
• Requires a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence and use of a reliable vehicle;
