Aplin Looking for Engineering Manager – Light Duty Vehicle at North Bay, Ontario, Canada Full Time

Our client, a privately owned and operated Canadian business that specializes in mobile and utility equipment for the mining, tunneling, and construction industries. Since the company’s inception in 1979, it has grown to a staff of 50+ employees and a 55,000 ft2 facility. They offer Sales, Parts, and Services to customers as well as in-house Manufacturing, Engineering, and Research and Development within this ISO-9001 Certified Company. They are currently looking to add an ambitious and team-oriented individual to join their team as an Engineering Manager. This position will oversee the retrofitting operations for mobile and utility equipment within the mining industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of talented engineers and technicians to ensure the smooth execution of retrofitting projects and vehicle development.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent leadership abilities, and an understanding of mining industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee engineering new product development projects.
• Oversee and assist in production improvement projects.
• Create and update project schedules.
• Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to established schedules and budgets.
• Prepare and approve design packages for prototype and production.
• Guide the engineering team in the design and implementation of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Support the Production Supervisor and Management to meet production deadlines.
• Work in collaboration with all departments to cost development projects.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to team members to enhance their technical skills and professional development.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years’ experience in engineering, manufacturing, and product/prototype development.
• Safety-focused and detail-oriented.
• Experience in automotive or industrial vehicle communication systems (J1939 protocol preferred).
• Experience in the product development lifecycle, bringing a product from concept to market.
• Demonstrated knowledge of production processes in an ERP system including inventory control.
• Strong team member who can work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient with SolidWorks software including knowledge of 3D models, assemblies, design tables, and technical drawings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Valid G license with the ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
• Superb organizational skills, including multitasking and time management.
• Enthusiastic and willing to learn and grow professionally within an organization.

The successful candidate will be required to work on-site in the North Bay office. Relocation assistance will be provided.
