Description: The Assembly of First Nations is seeking an experienced, skilled, and motivated individual who, reporting to the Director, HR, will be responsible for carrying out various human resource functions. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to HRIS management, payroll, benefits and pension plan administration, onboarding/orientation, job evaluation, health and safety, and summer employment programs. The incumbent will also assist with the recruitment process, policy development, and training initiatives as necessary. As well, the HR Officer will support employees and management by ensuring the provision of consistent, timely and accurate information that aligns with the HR Policy Manual, employment legislation, and best practices.

Applicants must possess:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources management, or a related field of study and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A CPHR designation is an asset
A minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with First Nations organizations or communities
Working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and human resource best practices
Working knowledge and understanding of current and trending human resources issues
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate information to employees and management clearly and concisely
Intermediate computer skills primarily with HRIS management, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Laserfiche, Zoom and Teams
Demonstrated experience in analyzing and resolving human resources related issues and problems involving individuals or groups of people
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills and attention to detail
English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French or an Indigenous language would also be an asset.
Other Job Requirements: The AFN requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.
