Educational Assistant
(Permanent Full-Time)

The Avon Maitland District School Board is accepting applications for a 1.0 permanent Educational Assistant at North Perth Westfield Elementary School located in Listowel, Ontario.
Reporting to the school Principal, the successful candidate will be passionate about supporting students with special needs and providing positive and inclusive learning environments inside our schools.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Demonstrate core beliefs of Inclusive education in daily work;
Empower schools teams to support and understand students with significant needs through observation;
Provide follow-up support including modeling of strategies to classroom teams;
Model support that encourages student independence;
Assist the school in establishing routines for students with personal care needs including washroom support;
Work with the classroom teams to implement routines for program accommodation and
support;
Support tracking and recording of observations and providing feedback to the classroom
team;
Support schools in developing strategies for accommodating students during transitions;
Assist schools in establishing routines for students with mobility;
Participate in training and ongoing professional development sessions (ie BMS, WHMIS, AODA Standards);
Travel to schools within the district on a daily basis; and
Job Specifications And Requirements
College level diploma or certificate, such as the Educational Assistant program or other related certification/diploma related to the specific assignment, or a combination of experience, education and training that is deemed equivalent by the Board.
Successful experience working as an educational assistant in either an elementary or secondary school setting.
BMS Certification and knowledge of the processes.
Familiarity with Applied Behavioural Analysis and/or Functional Behaviour Assessments.
Knowledge of and familiarity with behaviour plans and safety plans and their implementation.
Child and Youth Worker qualifications will be considered an asset but are not required.
Excellent interpersonal and professional skills.
Knowledge of Structured Learning supports.
Flexibility and adaptability to be able to work in varied school settings and to work as part of a team in a busy environment.
Good oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Leadership capabilities related to modelling strategies and building capacity in classroom teams.
Walking, supporting and lifting students up to 40 pounds and containing where required in accordance with Behaviour Management Systems (BMS).
Proficient computer and technological literacy skills.
A valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and vehicle willing to travel year round from school to school.
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week for full-time, 10 months
Rate of Pay: Level 4 – $21.63 per hour as per the ESSP Collective Agreement plus Benefits with OTIP and Pension with OMERS
Start Date: March 22, 2024
