Where does the Packaging Engineer fit in?
The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for the development, design, validation and project management of packaging projects, including new packaging designs, material conversions, packaging equipment procurement lifecycle, packaging equipment selection, and quality and regulatory compliance.
The packaging engineer will also be responsible for safe transportation of products, identify cost reduction opportunities and stay on top of industry trends.
What you can expect as our next Packaging Engineer:
Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
Assist all internal teams and perform research on all products and evaluate packing requirements in development phase of all products.
Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
Work closely with Engineering to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.
Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.
Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.

Do you have what it takes to be our next Industrial Engineer?
Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent
Minimum 3 years’ experience within Industrial Packaging or related field
Experience in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry is an asset!
Experience with researching and implementing packaging materials, designs, and systems in a regulated environment
Strong foundation of problem-solving and decision-making skills
Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.
Demonstrated competence with industrial control applications, such as Allen-Bradley PLCs, and ability to read and interpret engineering discipline drawings.
Ability to generate drawings using AutoCAD and proficient with computers to generate spreadsheets, reports, and general correspondence.
Ability to work in rapidly changing environment with minimal guidance
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to work well under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
Mechanically inclined and good aptitude, highly focused and driven to learn
Must have proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, AutoCAD)
Can handle multiple tasks and issues at the same time and prioritize in fast paced environment
Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
Strong social and communication skills – effective at interacting and communicating across varying payroll levels
Understanding of process improvement, quality improvement concepts is needed Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and good manufacturing practices
