Baker Tilly Victoria is currently looking for a motivated professional to join our growing team as Human Resources Manager. This is a mat-leave coverage position lasting approximately 15 months. This is the perfect opportunity for a junior to mid-level HR professional looking to take the next step in their career or an advanced HR professional looking to gain new experiences in a rapidly growing, reputable organization.
Your responsibilities include:
Operational HR:
Lead firm recruitment which includes:
Managing annual and ad hoc recruitment activities (creating job descriptions as needed, posting job openings, screening candidates, setting up and leading job interviews, reference checks, writing employment contracts, etc.).
Managing the co-op recruitment process and being the main point of contact for post-secondary institutions. Assisting with co-op- job evaluations and worksite visits.
Participating in a variety of recruitment activities (annual career fairs with local colleges, universities and CPABC; recruitment roundtables with CPABC/other local firms).
Manage the Firm’s HR system (BambooHR) with the assistance of Payroll. Maintain content on the National website.
Create and roll out new policies. Update existing policies.
Write various employment letters (bonus letters, promotion letters, employment confirmation letters).
Employee Relations:
Act as a primary contact for day-to-day employee issues and concerns.
Engage in performance management with staff. Coach Manager’s on performance management process and specific staff concerns.
Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with firm and HR policies.
Implement Human Resources programs as needed and provide suggestions for improvements based on strategy of the firm.
Assist with the firm rewards and recognition initiatives as needed (coordinating gift cards, staff celebration planning, etc.).
Participate in staff annual performance reviews.
Complete exit interviews.
Workforce Planning:
Identify and research HR issues, contribute information, analysis and recommendations to the firm’s strategic thinking and direction.
Ensure human resources objectives are in line with the firm’s objectives.
Meet monthly with Managers and Principals. Address and discuss concerns, ideas, and new processes for implementation.
Manage firm-wide space planning which includes maintaining seating charts, ordering equipment, planning for tax season/other moves, etc.
Training and Development:
Assist in firm onboarding and offboarding process (systems set-up, liaising with Training Manager, communication to new hires, set-up of keys/fobs, etc.).
Work in partnership with the Training Manager and other Managers to identify, support and coordinate training.
Present training sessions to staff on HR related matters (coaching, performance management, new HR processes, etc.).
Other:
Implement and oversee health and safety initiatives (health and safety committee, first aid, emergency preparedness).
Create monthly agenda for Principal meetings and take monthly meeting notes.
Plan annual strategy session for Principals (arrange travel, hotels, meeting rooms, meals, and AV equipment).
Write weekly newsletters/other staff communications.
Approve varying staff requests and expense reports for staff.
Be a point of contact for Baker Tilly National events and requests (e.g., orders for various supplies and goods, wellness challenges, seminars, etc.).
Participate in various HR committees with Baker Tilly National and other mid-size accounting firms.
Assist in various compliance related requirements.
Desired education and experience:
Post-secondary education in a related or relevant field.
CPHR designation is an asset.
Minimum of 5 years human resources experience.
Desirable skills, knowledge and abilities include:
The ability to maintain and develop relationships with Principals and all levels of staff.
Must be able to provide suggestions and recommendations on HR programs, initiatives and ensure alignment of HR strategies with Firm objectives and goals.
Must be detail oriented.
Comfortable using a variety of software programs and platforms (common programs include MS Office, BambooHR, Jostle, Expensify, proprietary programs, Expression Engine).
Ability to coordinate information flow with multiple sources (Principals, Managers, staff).
Strong management and supervision abilities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Contribute to a positive team attitude.
Make decisions when required.
Must be willing to roll up sleeves and contribute, not just lead.
Location: Downtown (preferred), Sidney or Westshore may be considered (training will take place downtown).
Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm (with small adjustments in tax season and summer months).
Duration: 15 months (approximately).
Ideal Start Date: Early May 2022.
