Barnard Construction Company Looking for Trackwork Project Manager at Alberta Full Time

Who We Are

Barnard-Flatiron Limited Partnership (“BFLP”), a joint venture between Barnard Constructors of Canada and Flatiron Constructors Canada, has been created to deliver Phase One of the Green Line LRT Project.

The Green Line LRT Project is the largest infrastructure initiative in the history of the City of Calgary, with $5.5 billion (CAD) in commitments from the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary. It will provide significant transportation benefits by expanding mobility choice and providing rapid and direct connections between communities, employment hubs and destinations between the southeast and downtown Calgary. Phase 1 includes 18 kilometers of dual light rail track, 13 passenger stations, 2 kilometers of underground tunneling, 9 major bridge structures including 1 kilometer of elevated guideway, and a 72-acre maintenance and storage facility.

Position Overview

This role will oversee and manage all aspects of trackwork design and construction. This position will require a deep understanding of railway infrastructure, track construction and project management principles. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

This position will be required to work from the BFLP offices located downtown Calgary, with periodic travel to site when construction is underway.

• 10+ years’ experience in construction project management required

• 5+ years’ experience in managing personnel required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field an asset

• Experience with major urban commuter heavy and/or light rail systems construction with proven ability of successfully managing rail and trackwork construction projects

• Extensive knowledge of railway infrastructure, track construction and maintenance

• Demonstrated experience in leading mass transit trackwork designs and installation

• Strong background with LRT projects and working knowledge of rail power, communications, signaling, and structural systems

• Strong interpersonal skills developed to engage and retain positive working relationships

• Strong developed skill to identify, track and manage project risk

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry

• Manages all aspects of trackwork design and construction on the project, including construction, budget and cash management for a single assigned project to ensure compliance with the project contract and owner needs

• Manages track engineering staff and consultants

• Creates and presents monthly cost and revenue forecasts and report to Project leadership

• Maintains working relationships with supporting departments and project owners to support the project work plan and payment schedule

• Ensures project safety reviews and procedures are followed by conducting weekly safety checks and engaging in safety meetings and monthly review meetings.

• Supports the safety programs of the project and owner

• Reviews and approves staffing and equipment needs for efficient and effective project production

• Provides input on equipment procurement methods and contracts to ensure efficient and effective project production

• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance and resolving personnel problems
