Baylis Medical Technologies Looking for Logistics Specialist at Mississauga, ON Full Time

Overview
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for finding solutions, negotiating best rates possible and improving service levels for inbound manufacturing & outbound Canada and US. The Logistics Specialist is expected to build and maintain relationships with various transportation companies, customs authorities, customs brokers and will work closely with Baylis Medical Technologies Customer Service, Materials and Warehouse teams.

The Logistics Specialist will be required to work Monday to Friday, regular business hours and be required to be 100% on on-site.
Snapshot of Responsibilities:

• Source new freight companies and receive quotes for rate comparisons
• Negotiate pricing and terms, manage carrier scorecards appropriately to maximize efficiency and optimize costs
• Maintain Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable freight rates
• Manage full schedule from FCA and update carriers on a timely basis
• Work with carriers, accounting team on charge backs, invoice discrepancies, etc. and solidify approval process to do so
• Troubleshoot delivery issues such as delays and late pickups, etc.
• Support Logistics & Warehousing Manager with getting rate calculations and other duties as required
• Organize special ad-hoc shipments cost effectively by collecting bids from different carriers to get the best price at the highest service level possible
• Work closely with Operations and Supply Chain Department to achieve timely, effective delivery
• Monitor carrier performance and implement necessary corrective actions to improve services
• Report expected and actual arrival dates to management
• Measure and improve logistics processes to deliver supply chain KPI targets On-Time Delivery %, cost, carrier performance, etc.)
• Participate in weekly meetings- providing updates on outstanding issues, process improvements, etc.
• Research, analyze, assign and maintain global import/export Harmonized Tariff Schedule classifications and ECCN numbers, country of origin, and value information while ensuring support documentation is maintained for record keeping purposes
• Assist Global Logistics and Warehousing Manager with development and implementation of corporate global customs compliance and security programs to ensure compliance with international customs regulations, operating policies, procedures, and internal/external controls
• Interface with various customs agencies, other government departments, customs brokers, consultants, and logistics service providers to ensure proper declarations and data is provided
• Manage & maintain the origination process and records for Manufacturer’s Affidavits, NAFTA and other Trade Agreements, Certificates of Origins, etc.
• Develop and deliver to Company personnel import/export compliance awareness training regarding customs regulations, policies, procedures and internal/external controls required to ensure fast and efficient release of imports while remaining compliant
• Adhere to and promote the adherence to all Corporate, Quality and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Additional duties, as assigned

What you bring to the team

• Post-secondary education (Supply Chain, Business Administration, Logistics and Finance) and/or Certified Customs Specialist designation or equivalent
• 3 to 5+ years of prior experience in a similar role, preferably with progressive scope of duties.
• Experience in Medical, Pharma or Biotech industry preferred
• Strong understanding of Canadian/US and international import/export transactions
• Strong technical knowledge of Trade Agreements (NAFTA, FTA, etc.) and International Customs legislation, compliance and security practices
• In depth knowledge of customs paperwork and processes especially for Canada-US shipments.
• Experience working with ERP systems is required.
• Proficient in MS Office, including Advanced Excel
• Ability to work autonomously, with accuracy and effective execution and with little direction
• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgement and allocate work effort and time accordingly relative to the scale of the task and impact on the business
• Exhibit a sense of urgency and be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems in a fast paces environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with people at all levels
• Strong analytical skills, a high attention to detail and good planning skills
