Job Requirements:
Post-secondary degree in a related field (i.e., business administration, public administration, or education) plus 5 years recent related experience*. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (i.e., Diploma in a related field plus 7 years recent related experience*; Secondary school graduation or equivalent GED plus 9 years recent related experience*).
leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams and providing support to the development and maintenance of a high performing professional team;
providing strategic advice, guidance and recommendations to senior management, executive and elected government officials;
creating and delivering presentations (oral and written), communications and project management plans to senior decision-makers, executive, finance and legal professionals;
negotiating agreements at a senior level;
contract and financial management.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
Experience in a senior leadership role within the K-12 sector.
Experience with independent schools and/or international education priorities, competitor landscape, and linkages to government’s economic agenda.

About this Position:
This position can be performed from Vancouver or Victoria.

The Independent Schools and International Education Branch is responsible for:
Independent Schools:
Issuing or amending orders to provide operational administration of the Independent School Act and ensuring that all BC independent schools maintain necessary standards.
Inspecting and classifying all K-12 independent schools in BC.
Issuing operational, special education and homeschool registration grants to qualifying independent schools.
Administrating independent school distributed learning programs and homeschooling policies.
Initiating legal action on behalf of the Ministry of Education when non-compliance issues arise.
International Education:
Developing, coordinating, and implementing a range of policies, strategies, programs, and agreements relating to international education to support the attraction and retention of international students to British Columbia.
Overseeing activities related to international education in BC’s public and independent schools as well as the certification and regulation of the BC’s Offshore Schools Program (currently 45 schools in 8 countries).
Providing best-practice advice and support for district programs, supporting international marketing efforts, hosting international delegations, working with federal partners and collaborating with other ministries and agencies to support priority International and Inter-Governmental initiatives.
The Executive Director is the provincial lead for both the international education and the independent school sectors and is responsible for development, implementation and administration of education policy, standards and agreements and funding development, and strategic relations with these sectors. The Executive Director also develops and promotes sector innovation and quality assurance, engages key internal and external stakeholders in delivering assurance to government regarding sector adherence to funding and data collection policy, and is responsible for effective regulation of the international education and independent school sectors.
