Summary
The candidate will be in charge of efficient and continuous improvement of companywide health and safety programs. The candidate will need to demonstrate a great ability to articulate technical concepts in a diverse and decentralized operational environment. The incumbent will have to collaborate with other health and safety program experts, operational stakeholders and Joint health and safety policy committees.
The health and safety specialist will provide training, consultation, guidance, and technical assistance on matters related to workplace safety and assists all lines of business in complying with safety standards.
He/she will have to collaborate frequently with various parties (operations, unions, governmental authorities, etc.) in order to ensure the implementation and adherence to the programs they are assigned. He/she will act as the employer’s representative in various files under his/her responsibility.
Critical Qualifications
Experience in occupational health and safety with experience in risk management, process implementation, incident investigation and audits
Practical knowledge of the Canada Labor Code Part II, and associated regulations, as well as applicable provincial H&S legislation
Demonstrated ability to apply health and safety laws, regulations, CSA and other standards in technical environments and large organizations
Experience with developing and analyzing reports with various data sources
Experience in training development/delivery (Face to Face, webinars and online design)
Experience in unionized and decentralized environments
University degree in a field related to occupational health & safety
Knowledge of the ISO 45001 standard
In the course of their duties, this person will be required to interact with French & English speaking stakeholders across Canada
Preferred Qualifications
Spoken and written fluency in French and English is an asset
Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Strong organizational skills and sense of responsibility
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to work in a matrix team environment and to work remotely
Strong analytical and synthesis skills
Ability to demonstrate leadership, initiative, flexibility and autonomy
Interpersonal skills that enable partnerships from all company hierarchical levels
Excellent problem-solving skills
Project management skills
Ability to handle ambiguity
