Bgc Okanagan is excited to be delivering a new residential program for vulnerable youth. Penny Lane is now a Low Barrier Short Term Stabilization Home.

The program is purposefully designed with a double staffing model, mental health and behavioral supports in place to help vulnerable youth become more stable so they can succeed in the future. The program has 3 beds and youth stay in the program for anywhere from a few weeks to 9 months. The program is very collaborative; working together with each youth and their Circle of Care to create trauma informed, culturally appropriate, strengths focused and person-centered service plans. We offer recreation outings, support navigating resources in the community, engagement with family & other supports – all out of a comfortable home setting. Our goal is to overcome gaps in the system by ensuring that youth in our resource have every opportunity to overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop their confidence and skills for life.

The Behavioural Consultant develops, implements, and maintains behavioural intervention strategies and plans for clients and provides training to caregivers to facilitate successful living in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Uses positive behavioural supports and interventions to determine appropriate behaviour management methods, based upon a child/youth’s needs and consideration of their best interests. Monitors clients needs in conjunction with caregivers and/or other service providers.
• Provides consultation on residential care needs of youth to other team members to support youth’s transition into care, stabilization, and transition out of the resource.
• Develops, implements, and maintains individual behavioural intervention strategies and programs to allow clients to participate in community life more fully and actively. Applies psychological theories and principles and behavioural analysis techniques regarding behaviour and mental processes with participants who include children/youth’s experiencing mental health and/or substance use issues, physical health issues, developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses, neurological disorders, complex trauma, and severe behavioural issues.
• Identifies crisis situations and implements interventions to deal with such episodes. Mitigating any barriers or challenges where appropriate (e.g., develop a safety plan for children or youth that display high-risk behaviours).
• Counsels individuals and groups to achieve more effective personal, social

and vocational development.

• Provides training to caregivers and others to implement individualized plans for clients.
• Develops written plans, which include needs identification, goals, tasks and

timeframes about client programs, in conjunction with caregivers and/or other service providers. Assists children/youth with significant support needs (inclusive of behavioural, mental health, substance use challenges) to experience improved transitions to adult care system.

• Keeps current on literature and research in the field. Provides up to date best practice information.
• Maintains related records and prepares reports.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in counselling psychology or a related field.
• Have subject matter expertise and experience working with the specific clinical need(s) of the child/youth (e.g., mental health and/or substance use challenges, developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses, complex trauma, severe behavioural challenges);
• Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Successful completion of Agency screening process, including criminal record check

Hours: 35 hours per week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 3:00pm-11:00pm, Friday & Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm

Rate of Pay: $41.78 per hour plus cost shared benefits.
