The Senior Manager, People & Culture, is responsible for implementing plans and strategies aligned with business plans to meet the people needs of the business group (British Columbia commercial construction district). The successful incumbent will provide professional human resource guidance and support, anticipate, and determine people requirements to address potential business challenges to achieve business objectives. This position supports the salary members, and if needed hourly support.
This position is based in the Richmond, BC office.
Responsibilities
Leadership
Conduct performance plans and assessments with direct reports (People & Culture Coordinator).
Member of the District Operational Leadership team.
People Relations
Support and collaborate with leaders to ensure that employee matters are proactively diagnosed and addressed in a positive and productive manner.
Provide consultation with leaders regarding compensation-related matters, including salary/merit recommendations and/or promotions.
Liaise with and support the Center of Excellence People & Culture Team to ensure strategic alignment across all areas within the people and culture function.
Provide support to operational leadership teams to ensure they have the resources and advice necessary to make informed decisions.
Develop a rapport with employees to promote trust and open communication, providing ongoing support to leaders regarding human resources processes and programs.
A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the “pulse” of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
Maintain current knowledge of federal, provincial laws and regulations to ensure the company remains committed to fair employment practice, in addition to determining how pending legislation can impact the human resources field and the employment landscape.
Communicate and ensure understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational policies to managers and employees as needed.
People and Culture Program & Policy
Support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated through delivery of HR principles, practices, and policies.
Provide guidance and support on employee matters including, but not limited to, policy interpretation, respectful workplace concerns, conflict in the workplace, and/or corrective action.
Work with Director, People & Culture when needed, to support the resolution of complex and challenging situations.
Understand the site level environment and ensure alignment with the business needs.
Act as a liaison for business to ensure information is communicated to functional (COE) HR to inform strategy, program design, and planning.
Coordinate and support annual business cycle initiatives and programs (e.g., talent reviews and calibration, engagement survey and action plans, merit and profit-sharing cycle, etc.).
Oversee and support all onboarding and offboarding initiatives.
What We Are Looking For
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or related degree.
CPHR designation
20+ years working in a business partner capacity
5 years in a leadership role within human resources and within the construction or related industry
Experience dealing with sensitive, complex, and highly confidential employee situations (e.g., harassment, performance management, salary review and recommendations, etc.)
Fluent knowledge of Federal and Provincial laws and legislation as it applies to employee related situations
Ability to travel sites as needed (5% of the time)
Ability to translate plan into implementation with well-developed skills in organizational capability and change management, as well as written and verbal communications
Ability to partner, impact and consult with Executives, team members and People & Culture professionals across the organization
Ability to react quickly to changes, while keeping alignment with long term direction
Motivated by complexity and challenges; energized by evolving, exciting environments
Understanding of workforce-related federal and provincial employment laws and regulations
Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
