The Canadian Association of General Surgeons has partnered with The Canadian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Canadian Hernia Society, the Canadian Society of Surgical Oncology for a shared staffing model. Further, CAGS supports the management of the Canadian General Surgery Foundation and Canadian Surgery Forum. The Membership & Communication Manager will work with all these partner organizations.
Position Description:
Reporting to the CEO, the Education Manager supports multiple Canadian surgical societies. The ideal candidate is visionary and creative with a penchant for excellence in education and driven to move key strategic initiatives forward, positioning CAGS as a leader in surgical training. The position requires the ability to adapt to new digital environments and to embrace innovative approaches and solutions to ensure the program stays ahead of the curve. Interpersonal and communication skills are key, as is the desire to contribute as a key member in a dynamic, fully
engaged and cohesive team.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Development of Education Programs: Plan, manage and create innovative approaches to the development and delivery of value-added educational programs for CAGS and other partner society’s members and ensure that programs align with the vision and strategy of each association. Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to create new initiatives. Develop and execute, in collaboration with subject matter experts, virtual and in- person continuing professional development for members.
Reputation Building: Create effective short- and long-term educational strategies that will meet member needs and advance the reputation of CAGS, provide insights to inform approaches to communicating relevance and value to members on social media and through other communications platforms. Promote CAGS educational offerings to members and stakeholders, creating awareness and demand for services. Work with staff and others to support the educational goals of the Foundation and partner societies.
Accreditation: Manage and oversee CAGS provision of its CPD Accreditation Services, liaising with external organizations on accreditation applications and with CAGS Education Committee on review of applications. Stay up to date on the Royal College’s CPD Accreditation Standards through active engagement with the College.
Committee Management: Directly support governance of standing committees working directly on educational, examination, and accreditation activities. Act as an education advisor and mentor when needed on an ad hoc basis.
Effective Management: Provide effective program and project management to all activities under job purview. Undertake sound project budgeting, goal setting and tracking of initiatives. Ensure program documentation is kept current and complete. Manage relationships with external suppliers including contracts, tracking, and processing invoices Ensure program documentation is kept current and complete.
