About The Role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.

The Supply Chain Operations West team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing technical assistance and maintaining the laboratory, all laboratory equipment and test instruments. In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting in the delivery of products, processes and services that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.

Formula for success

• Drawing on your knowledge or experience in laboratory functions, you will receive, inspect, store and prepare donor samples according to approved work instructions.
• Utilizing your attention to detail, you will ensure working area is maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
• Applying your organizational skills, you will record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and environmental conditions in the lab.
• You will perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Canadian Blood Services’ Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Desired Education And Skills

• Completion of secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably with a science background.
• Minimum 2 years of related laboratory experience.
• Able to work independently.
• The ability to function as part of a lab team and demonstrate regular attendance is required.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

What You Can Expect

• Shifts/hours – must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays when required.
• Physical requirements – ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
