About the Pet Cancer Foundation
The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. We need to do more for our furry friends, and we’re building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families.
Over the past 24 months, the organization has grown from the Founder’s vision to a team of over 250 volunteers working virtually across Canada, the United States, and another half dozen countries worldwide. As we work to become the leading organization in the field of animal cancers, we plan to more than double in size over the next 12 months. To continue on this trajectory, we’re searching for highly qualified accounting professionals to help within our Finance Department to support the organization’s efforts. About the Position
To support the Foundation realize its large vision, the volunteer Accounts Payable, will use their extensive experience while thinking ‘out of the box’ to find solutions and deliver results. The will work closely with management to increase the organization’s efficiency and profitability by assisting the accounts payable team. The role requires to provide excellent accounting services in the areas of accounts payable, refunds and payroll. This position will manage the transactions, resolve issues, prepare the related reconciliations, play an important role in the month end process, and raise critical insights and recommendations to enable our Directors, VP’s, and other senior leaders’ evaluation of business initiatives, projects, and decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the transactions including accounts payable, refunds and payroll
- Review accounts payable coding, and ensure payment details are correct and payments are made on time
- Ensure special payments to federal, state or local governments are accurate and made on time
- Review and approve semi-monthly payroll for accuracy and ensure compliance with the applicable employment standards
- Review refund requests for accuracy, approval, validity, completeness of supporting documents and accuracy of payment details
- Ensure inter-company accounts are balanced at period end
- Assist with year end audit and preparation of working papers for auditors
- Recommend and implement changes for existing processes to improve efficiency and operating effectiveness
- Communicate to senior management the reasons behind the product/department performance and results.
- Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements
- Special projects and other related duties, as required
About You
The ideal candidate is a relationship builder, has strong EQ, and has executives and business stakeholders’ trust. This role requires a well-rounded professional with solid technical finance skills and an intuitive analytical mind. PCF is a rapidly growing and changing organization, and the Accounts Payable, , has experience in both large and complex organizations and entrepreneurially run start-ups. You have:
- Experienced A/R Specialist with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
- Advanced Excel and Outlook skills, with a working knowledge of other Microsoft Office programs;
- Knowledge of accounting concepts as they relate to Accounts Payable processes
- A logical thinker who can successfully problem solve effectively; attention to detail and the ability to anticipate issues are essential
- Strong desire to learn and understand with a continuous improvement attitude
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work and manage effectively and efficiently in a remote working environment
- Excellent critical thinking and time-management skills to complete deliverables accurately and according to established deadlines
- In-depth expertise with “what if” scenario mapping and in-depth financial analysis.
- Has demonstrated ability to draw insights from complex information and deliver complex concepts to non-financial leaders straightforwardly.
- A natural leader and proactive; you don’t wait for projects to hit your desk. You actively seek opportunities to support individual, team, and organizational success
