About the Pet Cancer Foundation
The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America. We need to do more for our furry friends, and we’re building a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help them and their families.
Over the past 24 months, the organization has grown from the Founder’s vision to a team of over 250 volunteers working virtually across Canada, the United States, and another half dozen countries worldwide. As we work to become the leading organization in the field of animal cancers, we plan to more than double in size over the next 12 months. To continue on this trajectory, we’re searching for highly qualified accounting professionals to help within our Finance Department to support the organization’s efforts. About the Position
To help the Foundation realize its large vision, the volunteer Accounts Receivable Specialist, will use their extensive experience while thinking ‘out of the box’ to find solutions and deliver results. The Specialist will work closely with senior management to increase the organization’s efficiency and profitability. The role requires the incumbent to provide excellent accounting services in the areas of billing and accounts receivable. The Specialist will manage the transactions, resolve issues, prepare the related reconciliations, play an important role in the month end process, and raise critical insights and recommendations to enable our VP’s, C-suite leadership, and other senior leaders’ evaluation of business initiatives, projects, and decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the transactional items including billing, accounts receivable and payment collection
- Review accounts receivable coding, and ensure invoice details are correct and payments are received on time
- Ensure that customers’ financial information is up-to-date and properly managed
- Recommend and implement changes for existing processes to improve efficiency and operating effectiveness
- Communicate to senior management the reasons behind the product/department performance and results.
- Maintain and implement measurable performance indicators, analyze them and take action in collaboration with the manager
- Monitor the performance and development of the team to ensure that objectives are met while conducting performance evaluations
- Generate financial statements and reports detailing accounts receivable status. Generate and deliver reports to different departments as needed
- Maintain internal and external customer relations and satisfaction by ensuring that requests are processed;
- Provide technical assistance to the billing team members
- Resolve complex problems related to billing
- Control and ensure compliance with month-end and year-end closings
- Assist with year end audit and preparation of working papers for auditors
- Special projects and other related duties, as required
About You
The ideal candidate is a relationship builder, has strong EQ, and has executives and business stakeholders’ trust. This role requires a well-rounded professional with solid technical finance skills and an intuitive analytical mind. PCF is a rapidly growing and changing organization, and the Accounts Receivable, Specialist, has experience in both large and complex organizations and entrepreneurially run start-ups. You have:
- Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles.
- Experienced Manager with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
- Advanced Excel and Outlook skills, with a working knowledge of other Microsoft Office programs;
- Knowledge of accounting concepts as they relate to Accounts Receivable processes
- A logical thinker who can successfully problem solve effectively; attention to detail and the ability to anticipate issues are essential
- Strong desire to learn and understand with a continuous improvement attitude
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work and manage effectively and efficiently in a remote working environment
- Excellent critical thinking and time-management skills to complete deliverables accurately and according to established deadlines
- In-depth expertise with “what if” scenario mapping and in-depth financial analysis.
- Has demonstrated ability to draw insights from complex information and deliver complex concepts to non-financial leaders straightforwardly.
