As an Advisor, Public Health, Indigenous Peoples Help Desk, you will work to provide evidence-based public health advice, grounded within a solid understanding of Indigenous cultures and contexts. Public Health Advisors (PHAs) will continue to provide technical guidance, resources, training, and support to IP leadership on Public Health measures to reduce the impact of COVID-19, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Epidemic Prevention and Control (EPC). In addition, this position will provide technical guidance, resources, and training to support a range of Health Promotion topics, including communicable and non-communicable diseases.

What we are looking for:
Essential:
Health degree (Bachelor or Master) in one of the following areas: medicine, nursing, public health, paramedic (does not require current Canadian professional licensure) OR formal or informal training in Complementary or Traditional Healing practices and Indigenous Studies and/or Wholistic health
Substantial (3 years+) experience living/working in Indigenous communities in Canada
Demonstrated understanding of unique strengths and complexities that exist within Indigenous communities
Demonstrated ability to think critically and problem solve quickly with minimal support
Exemplary communication skills
Dedication to continuous cultural learning and awareness, specifically to Canadian Indigenous communities and practices
Able to coordinate and foster effective working relationships with various stakeholders
Ability to reinforce self-determination and coping mechanisms (i.e., aiding in re-establishment of traditional forms of support and coping found in the community)
Competent in computer use (Windows, Teams, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, word-processing, e-mail)
Desired:
Experience in collaborations with Indigenous leadership
Experience in delivery of adult education and training
Previous experience doing risk/benefit analyses for health/emergency programming
Experience in public health or epidemic/pandemic response
Ability to communicate in Indigenous languages in Canada, as well as French
Working Conditions:
